Earthing or the other name some of you may know “grounding”, is the act of exposing some part or your whole body directly to the earth to suck up its healing properties. This practice can be done on the earth itself or on sand or on the grass. For those who don’t live near an area where you feel safe to expose your body to the ground or there is a scarcity of earth, you can buy some earthing tools like earthing mats and so on.
Earthing is connecting electrically with the earth and transferring electrons back and forth with it and getting the body back to neutral in the process instead of it being oversaturated with a positive charge and being out of alignment. Earthing should be practiced every day for a minimum of 20 minutes per day.
Benefits of earthing:
● Reduction of muscle damage
● Pain reduction
● Mood improvement and/or stress reduction
● Improvement in cardiovascular health such as lowering of blood pressure
● Sleep improvement
● Decrease in fatigue
● Increase in muscles and bones’ strength
● Immune system and energy booster
● Increase in blood flow
● Increase in brain function
● Help with keeping you in the moment due to paying attention to where you are placing your body
● Foot massage by Mother nature herself (Isn't that superb?!)
Types of earthing:
● Walking with bare feet
● Lying directly on the ground
● Using earthing tools on various body parts such as hands, feet, etc
Tools used for earthing:
● Actual dirt from the earth
● Sand
● Grass
● Earthing mats
● Earthing shoes
● Earthing sheets
● Earthing socks
● Earthing bands/patches
Things to be conscious of if you would like to try earthing:
● Do not start practicing earthing right away on hard and uneven terrain if you are unaccustomed to doing it. Start with soft and flat surfaces and for only 2 minutes at a time, then build your tolerance to longer periods of time and to other types of terrain
● Do not attempt earthing if you have a cut or damaged skin that is going to be exposed to the ground, so as not to give an entry point to any bacteria, virus, or fungi
● Always be aware of your surroundings when doing earthing so as to avoid getting hurt like stepping on broken glass and so on
● People who suffer from diabetes should not do barefoot earthing in nature due to the possibility of getting foot ulceration, so it would be best to use earthing tools like earthing shoes, etc
● Always consult your doctor before starting earthing, in case the health issues that you are trying to alleviate with earthing, need a more in-depth look and a more comprehensive treatment
