When I focus on weight loss with my clients, I focus on the whole person. Why?
Losing weight is not simply based on nutrition and exercise alone because there are metabolic processes at work and if any of them are imbalanced, they can cause, not only weight issues, but also other health concerns. If you want to lose weight, set a long-term goal that addresses the root of your problem.
What does it entail to get to the root cause of weight issues? Blood tests!
Getting your thyroid checked is essential because a sluggish thyroid can lead to a sluggish metabolism and an increase in weight.
Checking cortisol is also especially important. An increase in cortisol from both internal and external stresses can lead to hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, inflammation, and an increase in a fat deposition which increases weight gain.
Testing for IgG or IgA food sensitivities is also a must because food sensitivities can lead to increase inflammation, water weight, leaky gut (which leads to thyroid issues), and more.
A stool analysis can also be considered. Why do you think? What does my stool really have to do with weight gain? The testing of the stool is recommended to see if your gut microbiome is balanced and if there are no bad bacteria causing intestinal damage.
For most, weight gain is not just a matter of poor nutrition and lack of exercise. There is so much more at play and much more that needs to be addressed to keep the weight off.
